After revisiting the StrengthsExplorer site, it looks like I could have just bought the code online at the strengthsexplorer website, and downloaded the youth and parent books for free. I thought the youth and parent manual were only available in the package. It is possible that our code is tied to a special 'package' order, but I doubt it.
I was hoping that the Strengths Explorer would help provide more insight into what motivates and drives my daughter, and how I can help develop her. The results of the Strengths Explorer were not insightful (her strengths are competing, dependability, and relating) and the activities they recommend to leverage these strengths were so generic that I feel like the workbook and guide are pointless. I had higher hopes about StrengthsExplorer, but I was mis-led by thinking that the same level of insights from the StrengthsFinder would have also applied for my teenager. StrengthsExplorer could have been improved if the descriptions of the three themes that were identified for my daughter could have been more thoroughly explained - where I might see these traits in everyday life, when overuse of these traits might lead to a negative outcome, tips and tricks to help my daughter. it's like the manual was trying to be too delicate to not hurt anyone's feelings (there is a parent guide where they could have been more direct), but I don't have time to read between the lines.
Strengthsexplorer is a great way to get to know your child better and be able to parent him or her in a more effective way. It seems simple when you get the materials but if you dig into it and follow the directions for the youth and adult, you will get an amazing experience. Make sure you allow the child to take the online "quiz" without your guidance. Make sure they know to be completely honest (no one will see their test, ever, even they won't see their responses again). If they are not honest, they will not get the correct outcome of their top 3 strengths. I love this program, I took the adult Strengths Finder as part of a Life Group class at church and have really found it helpful for myself. I am so glad I had my son take the child version. It really encouraged him to know I was trying to find out more about him and he really felt the results described him. I was surprised by one of his strengths, it explains his reaction to situations and will enable me to be more effective with him!
A very interesting "strength-based" approach to improving school performance. My daughter is enjoying it.
I had taken the Strengths Finder 2.0 test and was excited to see they offer guidance for kids! Had my some take it and are working on the suggestions!
Basic for a 11 year old but useful none-the-less. Entry to middle school is a great time for a child to realize his/her strengths.
This would have been fine, but we opted to buy this for our 14 year old son and we found it was slightly too juvenile for him. We should have let him take the one for adults.
I bought this because I love the Strengths Finder for adults. The children's version is just as great. My son loved reading about his strengths and I enjoyed the tips for parents!
