Woohoo, an all-new series from Ann Charles, author of the award-winning Deadwood Mystery series, and this time she has help from Sam Lucky, (AKA Hubby :-) )These two have conspired, Um, collaborated, to take us back to the beginning, back when Deadwood was new and slaying ghosties and ghouls was just beginning in the Old West. With the backdrop of the old west, they created some great characters, like Clementine Johanssen, a tall short fuse and hot-tempered undertaker hired to clean up this new town. Oh, and let's not forget a couple of Santa Fe sidewinders, Rabbit and Boone, a couple of cowboys you are going to fall instantly in love with who will have you in stitches as they fall in with Clementine to find out exactly what happened to their uncle.Add to this mix of unlikely characters, Hank Varney, Clemintine's helper, a man who is a lot more then he seems. This story is peppered with some historical facts and a lot of fantastic fiction and will have you glued to your seat as you flip through the pages!Five Stars Ann and Sam, and I can't wait for more!
Life at the Coffin Joint is a story that reveals some of the grimy aspects of Deadwood during the Gold rush era. Throw in some very believable and lovable characters, a little paranormal action and levels of mystery that run deep in this story to help the reader see the tale in vivid detail. It has the reader second guessing who to trust. Ann Charles and Sam Lucky have promised to continue the story and honestly it can't come soon enough!
This newest book by Ann Charles and her co-writer, Sam Lucky, the start to The Deadwood Undertaker series, introduces us to life in 1876 Deadwood. The gold rush is in full swing and miners are trying to strike it rich but there is something evil lurking in the Dakota Hills that must be stopped, and a woman named Clementine Johassen who is not only the town undertaker but has been raised and schooled to be The Executioner! This story has everything I could hope for as is the case with all of Ann’s stories. Great characters that you can’t help but like, a story that you can lose yourself in that is filled with great details and action that keeps you on the edge of your chair. If you have read the Deadwood series than this is a must read for you. A lot of things became clearer to me of how things got started in Deadwood and the surrounding areas. I can’t wait for the next book by this dynamic writing duo to come out! I know the “do not disturb†sign will be on my door as I devour it.
This first book of a new series by Ann Charles introduces her hubby, Mr. Sam Lucky into the writing mix.Let’s go back in time to 1876, shortly after that coward Jack McCall put Wild Bill Hickok in his grave. Rough and tumble Deadwood SD is full of scalawags, miners, and seriously unsavory creatures in the hills.Clementine Johanssen has been serving as Deadwood’s undertaker for several months. Obviously she is no shrinking violet (see what I did there?). She’s been sent on a mysterious mission, and in her efforts to complete the mission, she comes up to situations that just keep getting more and more strange and dangerous. Clem herself is an unusual being, and she comes across some fellow characters to help in her fight against the evil that lingers in those hills.Very entertaining, laced with some history and some fantasy. This book is a taste that leaves the reader ready to see what develops in book two.
So Deadwood winter 1876 and trouble is in town. Clementine is the female undertaker for the town and keeps finding odd things about the dead being brought to her. 2 drifters come in and are looking for their uncle who came up from Santa Fe to do business but has not been heard from.If you have not read the other books by Ann Charles with her other Deadwood series not an issue as this is the start of it all. You can follow along not worrying about missing something. Characters are easy to love and you want to like or hate them. If you have read the other Deadwood series you will be gasping as you know who is causing issues and now have even more questions.Love the start of the new series and the joint effort between Ann and Sam Lucky. Take a step back in time and hold onto your boot straps as a chilling adventure has begun.
Another great read from Ann (and Sam Lucky)!! Boy what an adventurous mind these 2 have. Life at the Coffin Joint explains some of the goings on in the Deadwood Series. I can't wait to see more hints and explanations coming to us in the Deadwood Undertaker books to come.Once I picked up the book, I could not put it down.Love the new characters that were introduced; Hank, Boone, Rabbit and Clementine. I can't wait to hear the stories you have to tell! I have to admit, there were 3 times in the book I started to cry.....almost. Laughed out loud - yes. Got angry - yes. Loved the book - Most definitely - YES!!A must read.
I just finished Life At The Coffin Joint! Another fun book by Ann Charles, this time co-written with her husband, Sam Lucky. This is a historical, and has the same paranormal bits as in the Deadwood Humorous Mysteries. There's humor, mystery - (who is the "Rogue"?) - fun characters and a bit of creepy-crawly! I've read all 25 of her books/novellas and I'm going to keep reading anything she/they write! There was a teaser for the next book at the end and I can hardly wait to read the rest!
I LOVE Ann Charles books. This one is the start of a new series. She has written with someone this time. This promises to be fantastic.Ann's books NEVER disappoint. I look forward to every single time she has a release. I love Deadwood S.D. where this story takes place. You will NOT be disappointed in Ann Charles books!
